The President of Ukraine has signed the Law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Government of Lithuania and the Government of Poland regarding the establishment of joint military unit".
The Agreement provides for the establishment of joint Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian military unit and determines the general purpose, principles of activity, decision-making process, security guarantees and other organizational measures related to the activity of the brigade.
The brigade is created for the participation in the international operations that will be held under the mandate of the UN Security Council and the decisions of the authorized bodies of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine. The Agreement remains open for accession of other states under joint invitation of the parties.
Structure, equipment and other aspects of functioning of the brigade will be determined by the technical agreement between the bodies that implement the state policy in the sphere of defense of the states-participants.
The commandment of the brigade shall be located in the Polish city of Lublin. The commandment of the brigade shall be subject to the legislation of Poland and respective provisions of the international law.
Each of the states–participants shall be responsible for the financial provision of its units during the joint trainings, preparations and direct participation in the operations.
The agreement was signed by Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania in Warsaw on September 19, 2014 and ratified by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on February 4, 2015.
