On September 3, 2015 in Vilnius was held the inauguration ceremony of the NATO Force Integration Unit, which was attended by the President of the Republic of Lithuania H.E. D.Grybauskaité and NATO Secretary General H.E. J.Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Lithuania A.Butkevičius, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mr. L.Linkevičius, Minister of National Defence Mr. J.Olekas, deputies of the Seimas and members of the Government of Lithuania, representatives of diplomatic corps, as well as the Lithuanian society and local media.
On the invitation of the Lithuanian side the inauguration event was attended by Сhargé d’affaires ad interim of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania A.Skliar.
NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) in Lithuania is a part of establishing NATO command and control presence in six Allied states: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania. The establishment of the NFIU is implemented under the relevant decisions adopted in NATO Summit in Wales.
