Project’s title "Coal Goal" – is a metaphor for human desires of power, recognition and enrichment. Such is a common accepted understanding of success in modern society. Symbolically, coal has appeared in the midst of geopolitical disagreements, becoming cause and witness of the next historical disasters. The works incorporated into the project can also be interpreted as an artistic reflection on the Ukrainian Donbas.
"This project will be a reminder for our foreign visitors not only about the fact that Ukraine has qualitative and talented contemporary art, but also a reminder of the Donbas, about the necessity not to lose momentum and continue uniting efforts in order to free the area" – said Mr. Dmytro Kuleba, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in his opening remarks.
"Cooperation of the MFA of Ukraine in the project "Coal Goal" indicates the recognition of the importance of cultural component in diplomacy. We believe the launch of the project on the walls of the governmental institution is the sign of new approaches inherent to a democratic society: transparency and commitment to critical thinking" Natalia Shpytkovska and Alla Sheremetieva, curators and Artcult Foundation co-founders said.
Within the framework of the exhibition the works by Artem Volokitin, Anatoliy Gankevich, Egor Zigura, Dobrinya Ivanov, Olga Kasyanyuk, Anton Logov, Tatiana Malinovskaya, Konstantin Rogotchenko, Stepan Ryabchenko, Vasyl Sad, Yuriy Sivirin, Victor Sydorenko, Olesia Trofimenko were displayed.
