On August 24, 2016, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, the Embassy held a festive ceremony of laying flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko, located in the historic part of Vilnius.
The event was attended by the Embassy staff, representatives of the Vilnius Community of Ukrainians, diplomats of the MFA of the Republic of Lithuania, representatives of the Lithuanian society and local media.
Сhargé d’affaires ad interim of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania A.Skliar, activist of the Vilnius Community of Ukrainians V.Korvel, fromer Ambassador of Lithuania to Ukraine A.Kumža, and the Chief of Vilnius Council of public and political movement “Sąjūdis” L.Keroserius addressed to the participants of the event with the speeches on the occasion of the Independence of Ukraine.
The participants sang the Anthem of Ukraine and the Anthem of the Republic of Lithuania.
At the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Vilnius was held the solemn liturgy on the occasion of the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine and the Independence Day of Ukraine, and prayer for peace and unity in Ukraine.
Pastor of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity Joachim (Kovalchuk) served a prayer for Ukraine.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania, professor V.Landsbergis and the Head of the Vilnius Community of Ukrainians N.Šertvitenè addressed to the participants of the event with the greeting speeches.
At the Vilnius City Hall was held the festive flashmob on the occasion of the Ukraine’s Independence Day, organized by the Ukrainian community and Lithuanian activists.
Members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania E.Zingeris and R.Kupčinskas addressed to the audience with the greeting speeches.
Later that day at the Vilnius Building of Teachers was held the festive music concert with the participation of modern Ukrainian and Lithuanian bands, organized by the Lithuanian activists and the Lithuanian Riflemen Union with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine.
In the evening the Vilnius City Hall building was highlighted by the colors of the National Flag of Ukraine.
