07 September 2016 17:41

Ukraine intends to initiate consideration of the issue of providing comprehensive and irreversible nature for ceasefire in Donbas announced starting from September 1 at the next meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk on September 7. It was stated by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yelisieiev.

“TCG meeting in Minsk takes place every two weeks. We would like to discuss the issue of providing comprehensive and irreversible nature for ceasefire in Donbas announced starting from September 1 pursuant to the President’s initiative,” he said.

Speaking of the results of the G20 Summit, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration emphasized: “Despite the fact that Ukraine was not physically represented on it, we managed to achieve the results we sought”.

"This is a great achievement of the President of Ukraine, Ukrainian diplomacy, because just before the summit, and we knew that the issue of Ukraine would be put into consideration, we had a very intensive diplomatic artillery preparation so that this issue has been discussed and debated in the mainstream we sought,” Kostiantyn Yeliseyev stressed.

According to the diplomat, the Head of State has carried out intensive consultations with several leaders of G20, particularly German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Council President Donald Tusk.

“Also, pursuant to the instruction of Petro Poroshenko, Special Envoy of the President visited Berlin right before the Summit. Fruitful negotiations in trilateral format with German and French representatives have been held in order to coordinate joint position. We have outlined our vision about the issues to be raised at the Summit. Moreover, we have conveyed the lists of prisoners currently detained in Donbas and Russia,” the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration noted.

According to Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, our state has managed to achieved the expected results due to this work. “We have achieved the main goal - no issue of Ukraine has been solved behind our back without our consent. Second, it is important that we returned to the Normandy format at the level of leaders. Recent statement by President Putin that he agreed to participate in the Normandy format at the level of leaders is the evidence of that,” he noted.

"We praise these results and thank our partners - the United States, the German Chancellor, the French President for the support we received," the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration stressed.

At the same he noted that the work in the Normandy format had never stopped, because it provided for not only the meeting of heads of state and government, but also the work of experts on security and military issues, and the work at the level of diplomatic advisers of respective leaders.

Kostiantyn Yelisieiev informed that the phone conference in trilateral format would be conducted shortly with participation of the President of Ukraine, the Chancellor of Germany and the President of France. In the course of this conference, the parties will discuss consequences of the agreements and coordinate joint position for the nearest future.

The Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration is confident that the meeting in the Normandy format at the level of state leaders would also be held. “Of course, the date must be agreed with all parties,” he said.

Kostiantyn Yelisieiev didn’t exclude that the meeting could take place in Berlin. “At least, German Chancellor has put forward such an initiative during a telephone conference. So we are preparing,” the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration concluded.
