On September 28, 2017 on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania held a festive reception in the prestigious "Vilniaus Clubas" situated in the historic part of Vilnius.

 

The members of the Government and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Lithuania, and other authorities, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian business circles, the Ukrainian community of Lithuania and Lithuanian public, Ukrainian servicemen wounded during the Anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine who receive rehabilitation in Lithuania, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who study at English language courses at the Lithuanian Military Academy and others took part in the event.

 

In particular, the first Chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania (the restored Seimas) V.Landsbergis, the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, current Deputy Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the LR Seimas A.Kubilius, the Chairman of the Committee on Social Affairs and Labor of the LR Seimas A.Sysas, Head of the the Seimas Delegation of  to the Assembly of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania J.Jarutis, Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas E.Zingeris, Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania D.Matulionis, Foreign Policy Advisor to the Speaker of the LR Seimas K.Kudzmanas, Chief of the Joint staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces V.Vaikšnoras, Commander of Logistics Command R.Baronas, Director of Cybersecurity and Telecommunication Service of the Republic of Lithuania D.Adomaitis, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and operations of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania  R.Šapronas, Director of the State Security Department D.Jauniškis, Secretary General of the National Commission of the Republic of Lithuania for UNESCO A.Junavičiene, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania D.Varnaite, Head of the Ukrainian Community of Vilnius, N.Šertvytiene, well-known Lithuanian poet and singer D.Tarailiene, Father Superior of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Holy Trinity of Vilnius Vinkentiy Pelykh and other respectable guests were among the present.

 

The Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi addressed to the audience emphasizing that in the struggle for the right to have a united, independent and democratic state, Ukraine constantly feels the support and active assistance of our strategic partner - the Republic of Lithuania. Ambassador of Ukraine stressed on the high level and dynamics of bilateral relations between our countries; particularly emphasized on the unchanging foreign policy priorities of Ukraine: membership in the European Union and NATO. In the context of preparations in Lithuania to the solemn events on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuanian statehood (February 16, 2018), the Ambassador of Ukraine underscored that it was precisely this year the restored Ukrainian state could be 100 years old, as 100 years ago the Ukrainian People's Republic was created.

 

In the frames of the event the Embassy of Ukraine organized two exhibitions that attracted great  attention of guests: the exhibition of artistic photography “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The Jewel of the Cultural Heritage of Ukraine” by the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical Cultural Reserve, and the exhibition “26 Ukrainians who changed the history” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

 

Ukrainian and Lithuanian State Anthems, classical works of Ukrainian composers: M.Lysenko, V.Kosenko, V.Barvinsky, T.Akimenko, N.Nyzhankivsky, M.Skoryk, B.Lyatoshinsky, V.Silvestrov, L.Ornshtein performed by a pianist and composer, student of the P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv V.Tsanko, sounded during the event.
