In the frames of celebration in Lithuania of 400th anniversary of the Basilian Order of Saint Josaphat the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk took part in a solemn ceremony of laying flowers to the monument of Taras Shevchenko in the center of Vilnius.
The event was attended by representatives of the delegation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Holy See, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi with his spouse, representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania, the Ukrainian community of Lithuania, the Lithuanian public, pilgrims who came from Ukraine and Poland on the occasion of the Anniversary, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian media and other guests.
Within the framework of the event His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk had a friendly conversation with the representatives of the Ukrainian community of Lithuania. The State Anthem of Ukraine and Ukrainian folk songs, the prayer for Ukraine were performed.
On the same day, the Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania V.Yatsenkivskyi with his spouse took part in the opening of the exhibition of antique books and editions stored in the fund of the National Library of Lithuania “The Basilian Printing House of Vilnius”, as well as in the International round-table "Basilian Book Publishing in Vilnius", in the National Library of Lithuania organized with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania.
The event was also attended by the member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Chair of Subcommittee on Transatlantic Relations and Democratic Development of Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Žigimantas Pavilionis, the Protoarchimandrite of the Basilian Order of St. Josaphat in Vatican Genesio Viomar, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture Diana Varnaitė, Director General of the National Library of Lithuania Renaldas Gudauskas, wide circles of the Lithuanian public, the Ukrainian community of Lithuania, representatives of the leading Lithuanian and Ukrainian mass media, as well as scientists from Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, in particular, from the Ukrainian Catholic University of Lviv, the University of Vilnius, the Vilnius Academy of Arts, the Warsaw University, the National Library of Belarus.
