On January 22, 2019, The Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Unity (Act of Zluka) between the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic were celebrated in Lithuania.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi with his wife, representatives of the Ukrainian community of Vilnius and Jonava, the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church of Vilnius, the Lithuanian National Radio, Ukrainian pupils from the government-controlled territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, who study full year at the international school "Vilnius Lithuanian House" with the support of the Government of Lithuania, residents of Vilnius who came to honour this historic date, and other gests took part in the events.
The solemn ceremony of laying flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko in the historic center of Vilnius took place.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania V.Yatsenkivskyi addressed the participants of the ceremony, stressing the immense significance of 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Zluka between the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic on January 22, 1919, for uniting Ukrainians around the world, as well as keeping the unity of Ukraine in the present time. Pupils of Ukrainian class declaimed poetry devoted to the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
At the same day Father-Priest Vinkentiy Pelykh conducted the Holly Mass in the Holy Trinity Church of Vilnius, during which a prayer for Ukraine and a requiem to commemorate the Heroes who sacrificed their lives to defend Independence and Freedom of Ukraine were held.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Lithuania presented at the premises of the Church a photo exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921 and the 100th anniversary of the revival of Ukrainian statehood "Ukrainian Revolution: Lessons of the Past" (Lithuanian, English, and Ukrainian languages) prepared jointly with the Ukrainian community of Vilnius.
