On 24 September, Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta visited a true hero and friend of Ukraine — Lithuanian volunteer Richardas Savickas. In June this year, during a Russian missile attack in the city of Pokrovsk, Richardas was seriously injured. He lost his leg as a result of an Iskander missile explosion, but despite the difficulties of rehabilitation, he remains steadfast in his support for Ukraine and continues to recover in the Kaunas clinic.  

The story of Richard Savickas is a vivid example of incredible resilience, courage and dedication to the struggle for justice that began in 1991. Back then, he fought for Lithuania's independence, defending a TV tower in Vilnius from Soviet troops. And since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, he has been actively helping our country by delivering humanitarian aid to the frontline. In addition, Richard has made efforts to open a centre for temporarily displaced Ukrainians in Lithuania, providing the necessary support to those who have lost their homes.  

During his visit to Kaunas, the Ambassador of Ukraine expressed his deep gratitude to Richardas for his courage and unbreakable spirit. He noted that Richard's volunteer work and his willingness to risk his own life to help Ukraine is an example of true heroism.  

This visit became a symbol of great respect and gratitude to all Lithuanian volunteers who fearlessly help Ukrainian defenders. We sincerely thank Richardas and all our Lithuanian friends for their help and unwavering solidarity that knows no borders!
