The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the Mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. During the meeting, current issues of bilateral cooperation and further support of Ukraine by the Lithuanian capital were discussed.
“I am pleased to welcome the Mayor of Vilnius Mr. Valdas Benkunskas to the Ukrainian Parliament. Vilnius has the honorary title of “City-Savior”, which was awarded by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on January 24, 2023 for its humanism, mercy and solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Lithuania for its comprehensive support for Ukraine in the international arena, in particular for strengthening the defense capabilities of our country, as well as for proactive cooperation at the bilateral level.
“I would also like to express my gratitude for the resolution in support of the Victory Plan and the Ukrainian Peace Formula, which was unanimously approved by the Vilnius City Council on November 27,” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties discussed assistance to Ukrainian families who have found temporary shelter in Lithuania, as well as the functioning of schools for Ukrainian children. Particular attention was paid to the needs of Ukraine's energy sector, including the provision of generators, transformers and other equipment in the context of increasing attacks on civilian infrastructure.
“Together, we continue to work on strengthening our partnership and are working together to bring Ukraine's victory closer,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine summarized.
