Today, on World Humanitarian Day, a Ukrainian plane with medication and food supplies flew from the “Kyiv” Airport to Beirut. Deputy Foreign Minister Dmytro Senik took part in the ceremony of sending the humanitarian aid out.
The cargo will soon be delivered to the Lebanese capital, which suffered from the explosions of August 4, 2020.
"Ukraine cannot stay away from the difficult times that the friendly Lebanese people are currently going through. The Ukrainian humanitarian aid to Lebanon is our contribution to the international community’s joint effort to help overcome the consequences of this terrible tragedy," Dmytro Senik said.
On August 4, 2020, two powerful explosions happened in Beirut, killing about 200 people, including a Ukrainian citizen, injuring about 6,000 people, and destroying the homes of 300,000 residents of the Lebanese capital. The damage from the explosions is estimated at $10-15 billion dollars. More than 30 countries, including Ukraine, have announced their intention to provide humanitarian assistance to Lebanon.
