On June 26, Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars celebrate the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, a day of honoring the national symbol of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of the Crimean peninsula, an integral part of the large Ukrainian family.  

Today, the Crimean Tatar flag was hoisted alongside the national flag of Ukraine at a ceremony in Vilnius near the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania. 

The modern Crimean Tatar flag was first approved by the first Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people in 1917, which was held in Bakhchisarai. Since then, the blue flag with a golden temga has become an important symbol of Crimean Tatar identity.

During the event, Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta addressed the participants: "For the indigenous Crimean Tatar people, the flag has become one of the symbols of the struggle for the de-occupation of Crimea and the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity. We will not stop until this flag, which we are hoisting today together with the Ukrainian flag, will rise in all cities and towns of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol."

Adas Jakubauskas, the representative of the Crimean Tatar People's Parliament - Mejlis - in Lithuania, delivered a welcoming speech during the flag-raising ceremony.
