The Ukrainian Center hosted the opening of a unique exhibition "Helsinki to Kyiv: Back to the Future"
27 March 2024 18:00

On March 27, the Ukrainian Center hosted the opening of a unique exhibition "Helsinki to Kyiv: Back to the Future".

The aim of this exhibition is to illustrate the emergence of new modern nations in Europe from the Baltic sea to the Black Sea in 1917-1918 and their desire for collective regional security, both then and now. The exhibition is the result of cooperation with the historical memory institutions of seven countries: Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

According to the organizer of the exhibition, Member of the European Parliament, Professor Liudas Mažylis, the presentation of the exhibition at the Ukrainian Center in Vilnius and ahead of the 20th anniversary of Lithuania's membership in NATO is of particular importance.

"In my work in the European Parliament, I have noticed that there is a lack of a broader comparative vision of the development of the countries of the region - from Finland to Ukraine - at the end of the First World War and after its end. Now all these countries (so far, except Ukraine) have joined the European Union and NATO. The exhibition covers many important starting points and provides a temporal and geographical context for understanding today's political issues and the political discourse to address the challenges of the future," says Professor Liudas Mažylis.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Liudas Mažylis, Member of the European Parliament, who also organized the event. Greeting speeches were also delivered by:
  • Vilma Bijeikienė, Vice-Rector for Communication at Vytautas Magnus University,
  • Arja Makkonen, Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania,
  • Kaimo Kuusk, Ambassador of Estonia to Lithuania,
  • Solveiga Silkalna, Ambassador of Latvia to Lithuania,
  • Andrzej Dudzinski, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Poland to Lithuania,
  • Viktor Hamotskyi, Deputy Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania, Political Advisor.

Last November, the exhibition was opened at the European Parliament in Brussels, and now it will be presented in Lithuania for the first time.
