On October 14, on the occasion of the day of defenders of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Center, which has been operating in Vilnius for more than 4 months under the patronage of the First Ladies of Ukraine and Lithuania, held a solemn event to honor the feat of Ukrainian Heroes.
During the event, the First Lady of Lithuania Diana Nausėdienė presented the project "Books without Borders", which is implemented by the Ukrainian book Institute under the patronage of Olena Zelenska.
Thanks to the help of Lithuanian friends – Chairman of the Board of the Vilnius club Petras Šimeliūnas, Head of the "Ukrainian Center" Algirdas Kumža and Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas, 1000 books for Ukrainian children of different ages were brought to Lithuania. After the event, these books were distributed all over the country – to the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, the libraries of the cities of Varena, Ukmerge and Radvilishkis, as well as 4 schools with the Ukrainian language of instruction based in Vilnius. Every little Ukrainian, who attended the event had the opportunity to choose a book they liked and receive a special postcard with warm wishes from the First Lady of Ukraine and Lithuania.
Ukrainian ambassador to Lithuania Petro Beshta said: "The project presented today is extremely important, because it helps our children not to lose the connection with their Homeland and their native language. Unfortunately, part of our children's childhood, part of their youth was stolen. Our children were forced to grow up much faster. However, they never cease to amaze adults with the great strength in their small hearts".
Glory to the defenders of Ukraine!
