Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Olga Nikitchenko gave an interview to the Lithuanian news portal DELFI.lt
Key points:
Ukraine expects strength from the free world: more air defense systems, increased pressure on Russia, and clear consequences for its aggression. The latest Russian strikes were a direct blow to diplomatic efforts and a clear sign that Moscow is not seeking peace. Urgent assistance is needed for regions such as Sumy and Kryvyi Rih, where civilians endure relentless attacks.
More than a month has passed since we agreed to a ceasefire, but since then, Russia has only escalated its terror. From March 11 to April 11, Russia launched 70 missiles at Ukraine, used more than 2,200 Shahed drones, and more than 6,000 guided bombs. The only obstacle to a ceasefire and peace is Russia itself.
Authoritarian regimes around the world are fueling Russia’s war against Ukraine. Russia receives ammunition from Belarus and North Korea, and uses Iranian drones to strengthen its capacity to strike Ukraine.
Technological cooperation between Russia, Iran, and North Korea poses a serious threat not only to Ukraine, but also to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the entire world. The link between European and Indo-Pacific security is no longer theoretical – it is absolutely real.
What Lithuanians have already done for Ukraine is simply unprecedented. We feel your support on every level – from state leaders to every citizen. The solidarity shown after the latest attacks on Sumy and Kryvyi Rih was immediate and deeply moving.
The spirit of Lithuania – its love of freedom, truth, and justice – has turned solidarity into action. From fundraising campaigns to unique initiatives, and the opening of homes and hearts to Ukrainians who found a second home here – Lithuania has shown what it truly means to stand together in our darkest hours.
