"The Plan for Victory aims to establish a strong position for Ukraine in all spheres," Ambassador of Ukraine Petro Beshta in his interview for DELFI
26 September 2024 15:20

Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Petro Beshta gave an interview to the Lithuanian news portal DELFI.lt

In an in-depth conversation with Dalia Plikūnė, Ambassador Petro Beshta outlined Ukraine's strategic objectives, emphasizing the Plan for Victory and the urgent need for partners to make crucial decisions, such as lifting restrictions on the use of long-range weapons against legitimate military targets in Russia. He also discussed the significance and outcomes of the Kursk operation, as well as Ukraine's preparations for winter amid Russia's genocidal war by targeting critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

The key points:

  • The Plan for Victory aimed at creating a strong position for Ukraine in all spheres. Over the past year, we have been working persistently to develop a Peace Formula of President Zelenskyy and will continue to do so. This formula is intended for the negotiation stage, while the Plan for Victory is called to create a strong position for Ukraine before the negotiations.
  • We expect our partners to make particularly important decisions so that we can secure a stronger position on the front line, significantly reduce Russia's military and economic capabilities, increase pressure on Russia in all areas. We believe that the current level of pressure is insufficient.
  • In terms of the range that long-range missiles can reach, if you draw a line of 300 kilometers from the territory of Ukraine to Russia, there are many military facilities there. There are about thirty to forty military airfields, ammunition depots, and important logistics facilities that feed Russia's war. If we could use long-range missiles aimed at these targets without restrictions, it would mean very significant progress on the front.
  • The only real guarantee of security is Ukraine's invitation to join NATO, and all of this should be adopted in one big package, including economic compensation and long-term military support for Ukraine from the United States and other partners. As a member of NATO, Ukraine could become the core of the eastern flank, and we should build a very strong eastern flank, which could incorporate further measures in terms of a stronger NATO presence in the Baltic States, Poland, Romania.
  • This will be already the third winter when Russia is trying to push Ukrainians into the nightmare without heating, electricity, water supply. It started systematically destroying our facilities this spring. This is another example of Russia's genocidal war: it targets critical infrastructure that is intended for purely civilian needs. And this is genocide. We must be very clear.
