Today, the partnership between the communities of Ukraine and Lithuania has become even stronger – a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities of Ukraine and the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania.
The document lays a solid foundation for practical cooperation between Ukrainian and Lithuanian municipalities – including the exchange of experience in local governance and decentralization, strengthening the capacities of frontline communities through training and consultations, and supporting European integration at the local level.
It also opens the way for broader partnerships between communities, the launch of new joint initiatives, and participation in European municipal networks and programmes.
The Memorandum was signed by the Head of the Ukrainian association, Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov, and the President of the Lithuanian association, Mayor of Plunge Audrius Klišonis, confirming their shared commitment to deeper cooperation, regular exchange of experience, and new partnerships.
The meeting was moderated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Olga Nikitchenko. Opening the event, she stressed: “Cooperation at the local level carries special weight – it has repeatedly proven its effectiveness, responsiveness, and the power of direct connections and trust between people.”
We are sincerely grateful to he Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania for the openness and unwavering support for Ukraine. Special thanks for the recent decision to allocate EUR 50,000 for generators for our energy sector. This is practical assistance that directly strengthens the resilience of communities in the face of Russia’s brutal terror, where it is needed most today.
