30 August 2023 11:45

Ukrainian railways is looking for opportunities to expand railroad corridors to the Baltic ports. This issue is of particular importance in the context of the daily shelling of Ukrainian grain terminals, elevators, ports and other manufacturing infrastructure by the terrorist state, russia.

Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of Management Board of JSC “Ukrainian railways”, and Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta met with Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, and Egidijus Lazauskas, Director General of Lithuanian Railways. During the meetings, the perspectives of using an alternative route through the port of Klaipeda, key issues of bilateral cooperation, and ways to implement joint projects were discussed.

During the meeting, Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of Management Board of JSC “Ukrainian railways”, noted that Lithuanian ports currently have significant unused potential and that organizing a competitive alternative route for the delivery of Ukrainian agricultural products and rolled metal products to Baltic seaports, as well as for importing energy carrier to Ukraine, could be a promising long-term strategy.
