The U.S. Government has allocated over $1.5 million to support temporarily displaced Ukrainians in Lithuania
12 October 2023 14:09

The U.S. Government has allocated more than $1.5 million to organizations supporting temporarily displaced Ukrainian citizens in Lithuania!

9 non-governmental organizations from Kaunas, Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, and Vilnius will receive grants ranging from $90,000 to $250,000 to implement various projects to support Ukrainian citizens who were forced to leave their homeland as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion.

During the presentation on October 10, Charge d'Affaires of the United States of America in Lithuania Tamir Waser said: "These organizations have done incredible work since the first days of the war to support those who fled Ukraine. These grants will help ensure that their vital work continues."

Addressing the participants of the presentation, Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta emphasized: "Ukrainians whose lives were destroyed by a cruel and unjust war, those who were forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in Lithuania, need various types of practical support. As long as our citizens remain displaced, additional services - from facilitating integration into Lithuanian society to language courses and psychological assistance - are extremely important and relevant. The U.S. Department of State's decision to award funding to the grantee organizations will allow them to create new opportunities, programs, and services to meet the priority needs of Ukrainians."

During the meeting, U.S. Coordinator for U.S. Assistance to Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia at the U.S. Department of State Maria Longi told about the powerful assistance and solidarity of the United States with the Ukrainian people, and Vice Minister of Social Protection and Labor of Lithuania Justina Jakštienė shared how the Government of the Republic of Lithuania has been supporting our citizens since the first day of the full-scale invasion.

We are sincerely grateful to the U.S. Government for the decision to allocate funding, as well as to the U.S. Embassy in Lithuania for its significant efforts to implement the project. We also thank all the organizations that support Ukrainians without sparing efforts!
