The Day of Heroes of Ukraine was celebrated in Lithuania! The Day of Heroes is a day of remembrance of all Ukrainians who dedicated their lives to the struggle for freedom and independence of Ukraine, a celebration of the greatness of the spirit of Ukrainian soldiers – fighters for the freedom of Ukraine.
On May 23, in Kaunas, Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Petro Beshta took part in laying flowers at the memorial plaque to Yevhen Konovalets, a prominent Ukrainian who dedicated his life to making Ukraine an independent and sovereign state.
Yevhen Konovalets visited Lithuania, in particular in 1925, and in May 1928 to participate in the unveiling of the Freedom Monument in Kaunas in honor of the tenth anniversary of Lithuania's independence. Since 1929, he had been a Lithuanian citizen, which he retained until his death. It was on this day, May 23, 1938, that Soviet agents murdered Yevhen Konovalets in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The event continued at the Vytautas the Great Military Museum in Kaunas.
We thank the organizers of the event – the Vytautas the Great War Museum in Kaunas and the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union for their cooperation and support.
Eternal memory to all the Heroes who sacrificed the most precious – their lives for the sake of the freedom of their people and the independence of Ukraine.
