“Lithuania has been and will remain one of Ukraine’s most effective supporters,” emphasized Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis on February 24 during a meeting with Ambassador of Ukraine Olha Nikitchenko.

This also applies to the support provided by Lithuania within NATO, the EU — particularly through the implementation of the EU Integration Facility program aimed at preparing Ukraine for EU membership — as well as in other international forums.

“All assistance from the heart will continue to reach Ukrainians, who are defending their own freedom and the freedom and European values of all of Europe,” stated Saulius Skvernelis.

Ambassador of Ukraine Olha Nikitchenko expressed deep gratitude for Lithuania’s unique, timely, and exemplary assistance, its active international advocacy, and unprecedented fundraising campaigns. She also highlighted the Speaker’s personal support during his visit to Ukraine on January 20, 2025, as well as earlier during his tenure as Prime Minister.

Among the latest manifestations of parliamentary support was Saulius Skvernelis’s speech at a rally in support of Ukraine on February 23 at the Cathedral Square — the central square of Vilnius — marking the third year since the start of Russia’s full-scale military aggression. Another notable initiative was the solidarity visit of the interparliamentary association United for Ukraine to Ukraine on February 24, organized by Deputy Chair of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs Žygimantas Pavilionis.

The parties discussed the next steps in deepening interparliamentary cooperation in various formats.

During the conversation, Olha Nikitchenko and Saulius Skvernelis emphasized the need for a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace and recognized Ukraine’s corresponding efforts, along with the United States and Europe. Ukraine must receive clear and effective security guarantees, the most reliable of which is NATO membership.
