On June 11, on the basis of one of the most successful universities in Lithuania, a unique institution in Europe officially opened its doors – the Ukrainian Center under the patronage of the first lady of Lithuania Diana Nausėdienė and the first lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
The symbolic ribbon was cut at the ceremony by the First Lady of Lithuania, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania Petro Beshta and rector of the University Juozas Augutis.
First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, who also shared this special moment with everyone, joined the opening ceremony of the center in a videoconference format.
"When we conceived this center with my colleague, I let myself say, with my friend and great friend of Ukraine Diana Nausėdienė. We wanted Ukrainians, who were forced to come to Lithuania due to the war, to have a truly native place. So that the center would really be a place where you can turn for any question-for help or communication. So that you could study and spend your leisure time here. Join a cultural event or educational course," the First Lady of Ukraine said.
According to the plan, the Ukrainian center will become a place of training, career guidance, psychological assistance and recreation for children, youth and adults. The center will also be a platform for cultural diplomacy between the two countries, represent Ukraine, its culture and identity in Lithuania and participate in academic activities, hold creative meetings, concerts, and other events.
Algirdas Kumža, signatory of the act of independence of Lithuania and former Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine, has become the chairman of the Ukrainian Center in Vilnius.
